Youth Catechesis

"At the heart of catechesis we find, in essence, a Person, the Person of Jesus of Nazareth, the only Son from the Father. . .who suffered and died for us and who now, after rising, is living with us forever." (Catechesi Tradenae 5 and CCC 426) The mission of Youth Catechesis in the Diocese of Lafayette-in-Indiana aims to foster in the youth a deep love and devotion to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ through the moment of evangelization called catechesis, and in so doing aid in their salvation.

All the baptized have the right to be taught the fullness of the Catholic Faith in an organic and systematic way. (Catechesi Tradenae 11, 18) This office will strive to ensure that the youth of the Diocese of Lafayette are taught the fullness of the Catholic Faith throughout their formative years.

Catechesis and the Sacramental Life

"I also recommend that, in their catechetical training, and especially in their preparation for First Holy Communion, children be taught the meaning and the beauty of spending time with Jesus, and helped to cultivate a sense of awe before his presence in the Eucharist" (Sacramentum Caritatis #67)

"Dear young people, the happiness you are seeking, the happiness you have a right to enjoy has a name and a face: it is Jesus of Nazareth, hidden in the Eucharist. Only he gives the fullness of life to humanity! With Mary, say your own "yes" to God, for he wishes to give himself to you." (Pope Benedict XVI, World Youth Day 2005)
