A
10 Year Strategic Plan (2005-2015)
Introduction The purpose of a strategic plan is to address the primary tasks of the organization and to plan the artful management of carrying it though to success. In this case, this plan presents ways to achieve goals for planned giving and The Catholic Foundation of Northcentral Indiana, Inc. Input was requested by the Planned Giving Officer of the Diocese and was achieved by personal visits throughout the Diocese. To connect with leadership where no personal visits materialized an input form with an addressed envelope was given to all membership of the Board of Directors of the Foundation at the Annual Foundation Meeting on Thursday August 12, 2004 and the Quarterly Planned Giving Advisory Council Meeting on Tuesday August 17, 2004. A deadline of Wednesday September 1, 2004 was given for all input in visits and input forms to be returned. Selected recommendations were also taken from the document Asset Development Plan, in part, created by Joseph A. Bonner in May 2002 as the former Director of Planned Giving for the Diocese. A 10 Year Strategic Plan Overview A 10 Year Strategic Plan has been implemented for The Catholic Foundation of Northcentral Indiana, Inc. The plan calls for three action plans to be implemented in conjunction with each other. (1) Marketing and communications programs are critical to linking donors with The Foundation. A common message of Catholic stewardship reasoning and ways to give are to be put into place. (2) Internal programs at the Diocese and Foundation have been identified while at the same time externally, relationship building programs with donors is seen as critical. (3) Endowment focus and creation has been identified, to assist in linking donors, with the essential mission of the Foundation and operation of the Diocese. With these common needs identified, the three action plans have been created to answer and link asset development for the Christian mission of the Foundation and Local Church.

From past documentation, meetings though out the Diocese, input forms, and personal recommendations, The Foundation will focus on the following areas of endowment creation: General Needs of the Diocese Catholic Laity Education & Assistance A) Religious Education B) Outreach Programs C) Hispanic Ministry Vocations to Priesthood, Diaconate, and Religious Life Culture of Life and Social Justice Concerns Catholic Parishes Catholic Schools General Needs of the Diocese The Diocese needs general endowments to address the basic needs for operation. The following endowment fund will be promoted on a general Diocesan level to give the Bishop flexibility in a broad-spectrum of needs of the Diocese: Bishops Foundation Fund for the Future Catholic Laity Education & Assistance The expansion of lay leadership within the Church and need for Catholic community identity within the Diocese requires increased lay religious education and outreach program resources. The following endowments will be established: CFNI Endowment for Catholic Laity Religious Education CFNI Endowment for Catholic Outreach Programs The Catholic Hispanic population is growing at an amazing rate in the Local Church. The combinations of a Hispanic migrate and transplanting community will continue to grow new challenges for Catholic Hispanic Ministry and a need for greater resources. The following endowments will be promoted and/or established: Northcentral Indiana Hispanic Scholarship Fund Father Perry Trust to Educate Hispanics for Service as Lafayette Diocesan Priests and Lay Ministers Bishops Fund to Aid Hispanic Migrant Workers and Hispanic Immigrants within the Lafayette Diocese CFNI Endowment for Hispanic Ministry Vocations to Priesthood, Deaconate, and Religious Life The constant need for healthy vocations to the priesthood, diaconate and religious life should be a priority. To defray the high cost for priesthood and deaconate education will be a challenge to the Local Church. The constant need to maintain vocations for current priests, deacons, and the religious will also need attention for long-term health. The Foundation will promote the creation and funding of the following endowments for priesthood, diaconate and religious life: Casper J. Hardebeck Memorial Endowment Fund to Aid Diocesan Seminarians CFNI Endowment for Priesthood, Diaconate, and Religious Life Enrichment CFNI Endowment for Priest Retirement CFNI Endowment for the Diaconate Program in the Diocese of Lafayette-in-Indiana CFNI Endowment for Religious Life in the Diocese of Lafayette-in-Indiana
Culture of Life and Social Justice Concerns The breaking down of the traditional Catholic family, respect from human life and a just society creates numerous challenges for maintaining a healthy Local Church and its ministries. The Foundation will educate donors and possible donors in the aspects of linking funding to such causes. The following endowments will be promoted and/or established: Sharing With The Poor Fund CFNI Endowment for the Culture of Life in the Diocese of Lafayette-in-Indiana CFNI Endowment for the Enrichment of Catholic Marriages in the Diocese of Lafayette-in-Indiana Catholic Parishes The demographics of the Diocese will and has been in fluctuation which calls for the need for more flexibility. There is also a physiological and political reality where Catholics through out the Diocese do not always see Lafayette in a friendly light. This is normal to an organization that is spread out in territory and where there is difficulty in creating clear communication and relationship building. Endowments will be established on a deanery and parish basis where parishioners have ownership for the local funds and thus are more likely to contribute to parishes and schools in their local community. As well, this will give the Bishop flexibility to address the most pressing needs within the parishes of that deanery. The following endowments will be established: Six endowments for the Catholic parishes by Deanery: (Anderson, Carmel, Fowler, Lafayette, Logansport and Muncie) An endowment for each Catholic parish in the Diocese of Lafayette-in-Indiana Catholic Schools The demographics of the Local Church that has been in fluctuation with the parishes also affects the schools in a similar manner, but their funding challenges will become even more acute. The same physiological and political reality in the parishes applies as well in the Catholic school setting. School endowments will be established on a deanery and school basis where there is more ownership and parishioners are more likely to contribute to schools in their local community. As well, this will give the Bishop flexibility to address pressing needs of the schools within that deanery. The following endowments will be established: Six endowments for Catholic schools by Deanery: (Anderson, Carmel, Fowler, Lafayette, Logansport and Muncie) An endowment for each Catholic school in the Diocese of Lafayette-in-Indiana
Monitor and Update a 10 Year Strategic Plan (2005-2015) At each Quarterly Planned Giving Advisory Council Meeting the strategic progress will be monitored by the Planned Giving Advisory Council by presenting reports from each sub-committee on progress of selected programs. A 10 Year Strategic Plan can be adjusted and updated at these meetings making the strategic plan a flexible working strategy to bring planned giving and The Foundations goals into reality. The Planned Giving Officer will present a report each quarter on assess development, program progress and suggestions of priorities for the next quarter. Conclusion With the publication of this strategic plan we would like to express our gratitude to all through out the Diocese of Lafayette-in-Indiana and beyond for your opinions and suggestions. We believe this plan is the approach that planned giving and The Foundation should take to be a key player in the Catholic ministries within the Local Church. We look forward to viewing the great achievements The Foundation can make in addressing the mission of the Local Church. Planned Giving and The Foundation are only tools of the Local Church to spread the love and support of Christ which is the foundation all good things are built on, thus the theme: Christ, Our Foundation. By constructing Catholic planned giving and The Foundation to be closely linked to the mission of the Catholic community, these programs will hopefully, over time, create public opinion of it as an agent for the transformation and nurturing of a much greater spectrum of Catholics and the public. The Catholic Foundation of Northcentral Indiana, Inc. by being Catholic mission focused gives Catholics an alternative to local secular foundations. Now it has the opportunity to create programming, returns, and accountability that will make it attractive alongside other foundations within the Northcentral Indiana community. At the beginning of this strategic plan we placed a quote that rings even more true in the challenges will be addressed in the next 10 years:
